Senior Vice President
Amy Kennedy (she/her), a Senior Vice President at Putnam Partners, brings over 20 years of perspective from every part of the political campaign world and is uniquely qualified to help clients navigate the complexity of a campaign and create election-winning advertising.
Amy has done it all – managed campaigns, run a state party, led an independent expenditure program, managed issue advocacy campaigns, and served at the highest staff levels in state government, including as Policy Director for a governor.
A political director at her core, Amy works hard to anticipate the needs of each campaign, and she understands what it takes to win - while having a ridiculous amount of fun getting over the finish line.
Before joining Putnam Partners, Amy served as Vice President of External Affairs for Planned Parenthood Southeast, Southeast Advocates, and VoteChoice PAC, overseeing a three-state policy and communications team and the 2022 Georgia Independent Expenditure program, helping lead to the historic reelection of Senator Raphael Warnock.
From 2017-2021, Amy served as Executive Director of the New Hampshire Democratic Party (NHDP), managing a phenomenal team of up to 230 staff with a yearly operating budget of up to $3.3 million. In her first year, the NHDP flipped local elections to win the Democratic majority in 15 of New Hampshire’s 16 cities. In 2018, the first year since 1992 without an incumbent Governor, President, or U.S. Senate candidate on the ballot (and funding it), Amy oversaw the planning and execution of the successful statewide Coordinated Campaign, flipping both state legislative chambers from red to blue and reelecting both Members of Congress.
Under Amy’s leadership, the NHDP organized Democratic involvement in the 2020 Presidential Primary, running the Party’s successful 100 Club Dinner with over 10,000 guests, the state convention with over 9,000 guests, and each of the state’s 22 seamless primary caucuses. After the primary, she oversaw the Coordinated Campaign in partnership with the Presidential campaign while ensuring support for candidates down the ballot, maintaining both congressional seats, and reelecting New Hampshire’s US Senator for a historic 4th term.
Before joining the NHDP, Amy served as Policy Director to New Hampshire’s Governor Maggie Hassan while acting as the Governor’s health care, insurance, labor, military, banking, and housing advisor. Amy managed the Governor’s external relations for 2014’s landmark bipartisan health care expansion bill and 2015 reauthorization compromise, which has provided health care to over 200,000 Granite Staters. During the same legislative session, Amy drafted language and collaborated with advocates and legislators to pass the largest piece of juvenile justice reform in decades, and the following year worked to establish the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program within the state Department of Health and Human Services.
In 2014, Amy took time away from the state government to help reelect Governor Hassan, acting as Political Director for her campaign, and served as Senior Advisor for Hassan’s successful 2016 race for U.S. Senate. Amy understands the needs of a paid media campaign from the client’s perspective. On the gubernatorial campaign, Amy learned first-hand what makes a successful ad shoot (and, consequently, a happy candidate), and she brings that knowledge to Putnam Partners now.
Amy made her way to New Hampshire when she joined President Barack Obama’s reelection team as Deputy State Political Director, building constituency groups and engaging legislative leaders in support of the President. Prior to moving to New Hampshire, Amy served as a legislative aide in the Florida House of Representatives and started her career as Director of Community Relations/External Affairs for Planned Parenthood of North Central Florida.
Amy received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women’s Studies from the University of Florida (Go Gators), and a Master of Public Administration with a focus on state policy from the University of North Florida. Her proudest personal accomplishment is the incredible teams of political junkies she has built, trained, supported, and made laugh.
Amy is a graduate of the 2016 Class of Leadership New Hampshire, served on the NH ACLU Reproductive Rights Advisory Council, and was a Board member for VolunteerNH. She has also served as the Governor’s Designee to the NH Interagency Council on Homelessness, as Vice President of the Association of State Democratic Executive Directors. She is currently serving on the University of North Florida MPA Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
Amy lives in Washington, DC, enjoys planning her next travels, and, yes, she does want to dog sit for you.
